Sentient humanoid beings who look almost identical to ordinary humans. Some have horns, claws, tails, oddly-shaped ears, etc. They were first discovered along the coast of Northern Europe during the Unmanned War. The largest non-human populations include werewolves and vampires, among others.

All Blood Conservation Agency

A government-affiliated corporation established by the werewolves, who associate with humans the most of all the non-human races. The ABCA's mission statement is to prevent the extinction of all Prominents—their term for non-humans.

The All Blood Conservation Agency's chosen form of extinction prevention: systemizing the clan system into full-scale bases of operation established in specific regions. Asia does not currently have one.

Rising Sea Levels

The average global temperature has surpassed 20 degrees Celsius, and the sea levels have risen 80 meters since the turn of the millennium. Not only were the majority of the earth's animal species driven to extinction, but thousands of coastal cities around the world have been submerged, pushing the human population further inland.

The Unmanned War

The name of a war that was indirectly caused by climate change. Powered by advancements in robotics and drone technology, it lasted nearly 150 years. In the time since then, a large-scale weapons ban has tentatively put a stop to the conflict.

Decline of Human Population

As a result of the ongoing war, AI's impact on the job market, plus recent developments in regenerative and life-extending medical technology, the general populace has gradually lost interest in having children, and the total global population has dwindled to just 3.8 billion.

Shelters & Edgelands

In order to ensure stability and efficiency, cities that moved inland constructed shelters designed to suit the local geography. The wastelands that surround these constructs, including the nearly-deserted coastal areas, are known as edgelands.

Vegetation Barriers

These artificial barrier crops were experimentally introduced in certain areas as a countermeasure against air pollution and global warming. In some areas they function as intended to protect humans and non-humans alike, but a new species originally developed in Southeast Asia has mutated out of control, engulfing entire cities and causing tremendous amounts of damage. This poses a challenge to anyone traveling from one shelter to another, particularly in Asia.

Decline of International Trade & Immigration

Now that cities have turned into shelters protected by vegetation barriers, travel has become so difficult that most people have stopped considering it entirely. As a result, international trade has declined, forcing each shelter to supply any and all materials needed for daily life. Now virtual reality has become the basis for all human entertainment.

The Island with Three Names

Three different names, each with their own separate origins. As an external business district, it's known as Hourei Island, but because this is a relatively recent development, the name has yet to reach mainstream usage.

A commercial complex with a casino at the center, offering its visitors all kinds of fun activities to enjoy. The ultra-wealthy come here every weekend as a getaway from boring old virtual entertainment. But because there are no hotels onsite, visitors must catch a boat to leave the island at the end of the day.

The Mainland

A larger island located just six miles from Hourei Island; head another hundred miles inland and you'll find the shelter where the humans live. Most of the coastal areas have been depopulated, save for a small number of people dedicated to building revetments as a form of erosion defense.
